What is IPG?

Photogrammetry is a technology that captures 3D measurements and data of objects and environments by analyzing photographic images. It is widely applied in high-end industries such as aerospace and has been extensively used for large-scale measurements. SHINING3D’s metrology systems have been recognized and trusted in the industrial sector for many years.

SHINING3D is the first in the world to innovatively integrate photogrammetry with intraoral scanning. In full-arch or partially edentulous implant cases, when used with the high-precision AI-coded kit, IPG technology can quickly determine the position and angulation of implants while simultaneously capturing detailed intraoral soft tissue data, delivering a far more accurate scanning solution.

The SHINING3D Elite and Elite Wireless intraoral scanners are now equipped with IPG technology, setting a new standard for data acquisition in orthodontics, general dentistry, esthetics, implantology, and full-arch rehabilitation.

How does IPG work?

Intraoral Photogrammetry (IPG) is an advanced digital technology designed to accurately capture 3D images of the oral cavity, making it especially suitable for complex treatments such as implantology and full-arch rehabilitation. The process begins with the Aoralscan Elite, a specialized intraoral scanner that captures multiple high-resolution images from different angles inside the patient’s mouth.

To ensure accuracy, clinicians attach AI-coded scan bodies onto the implants. These scan bodies feature coded markers that serve as fixed reference points. By analyzing the geometric relationships among these markers within the captured images, the IPG system reconstructs a detailed 3D model that precisely reflects the patient’s dentition and implant positions. The model can then be automatically aligned with original implant libraries from major manufacturers within the software.

What are the benfits of IPG?

(1) Enhanced Accuracy|Elite accuracy up to 5µm
Intraoral Photogrammetry (IPG) integrates advanced image-processing algorithms and real-time dynamic tracking. By using the coded patterns on the scan kit as precision control points—instead of relying solely on the shape of traditional scan bodies—IPG minimizes deformation errors and ensures data consistency. The Elite intraoral scanner can quickly identify and precisely calculate implant positions, guaranteeing an optimal fit for final restorations.

(2) Simplified Workflow|Saving more than half the time
In full-arch rehabilitation cases, IPG significantly reduces over half of the traditional steps, saving both clinical time and resources. This streamlined workflow supports accurate diagnosis and efficient treatment planning.

(3) Improved Patient Experience
The Aoralscan Elite enhances treatment for edentulous patients by offering greater comfort, precision, and speed. Its accuracy makes diagnostics more reliable while reducing wait times, helping to ease patient anxiety and uncertainty during treatment.
